Ancient Egypt's King in Pacific Place Mall of Hong Kong!
Gravity
Awol Erizku 2018-2023 10 x 5 x 10 m Oxford fabric, PVC
This work – entitled Gravity – is 10 metres high. Though originally made in 2018 for exhibition ‘Slow Burn’ at Ben Brown Fine Arts in Hong Kong, it has never been presented in public until now.
Gravity was inspired by Ancient Egypt’s King Tutankhamun, a symbol of divine omniscience and ancestral wisdom, who exerts unprecedented influence on the world spanning from antiquity to present. His image is both ubiquitous and appropriated throughout art history – connote with the inflatable nature of the work.
Gravity’s unveiling marks the first time Art Basel’s Encounters sector has embarked on an off-site, public-facing project. The installation is displayed until 2nd April, 2023 in Pacific Place Mall, Admiralty.
