Guan Yin Opens Treasury in Temple of Hong Kong!? 觀音借庫步驟大公開！

The 26th day of the first lunar month marks the Guan Yin Treasury Opening Festival. There is a ritual that you can borrow a “Guan Yin Loan” from the goddess. It is a unique culture in Hong Kong among other regions with Guan Yin Temple. Worshippers can visit the temple and get a red pocket with a number on it. It is a random number which may vary from 3 million up to 1 billion (dollars). It is believed that the number is how much money Guan Yin will lend you. Also it is kind of a test for people to see how lucky they are in the coming year. This is my first time trying this and I got the biggest number! Beginner’s luck I guess. Also you will get a bunch of lucky souvenir for you to keep for the rest of the year.

This festival lasts only one day so that’s why the temples would open overnight for worshippers. I was told by my experienced friend that we should do it at 6am to avoid queues. Otherwise we might need to queue up for hours.

In tradition, you will need to thank Guan Yin in the 12th lunar month.

The festival only lasts for one day every year (16 Feb 2023).
