How Much To Tip In Hong Kong?

“How much should I tip in restaurants?”

Visitors may ask when they are in Hong Kong.

There is no exact rules of tipping in Hong Kong which people must follow.

In many restaurants, they would charge an extra 10% of the bill as service charge. It is a common practice in Hong Kong. Unfortunately this "service charge" normally does not go to the pockets of the servers. Therefore if you want to tip the servers, you will need to do it separately.

For normal practice, local people usually leave the coins from the change as tips, therefore many restaurants would break the change into many coins so that people may leave more tips.

Of course, depending on the situation such as the food and service provided, people would tip more. It is suggested to do it by cash because tips paid by credit cards may not go to the pockets of the employees.
