This is Lin Ma Hang Lead Mine! ⛏️ Roaming through this abandoned mine near the Shenzhen border was like stepping into a ghost town from another era. It was alive with lead and silver mining from 1915 to 1958, and now it’s got this creepy-cool vibe with shadowy tunnels and forgotten relics. 🦇 I was blown away to find out it’s home to one of HK’s biggest bat colonies, protected as a Site of Special Scientific Interest! The hike up Robin’s Nest to reach it was so worth it for the views and the adventure. 🌿 Heads-up: the inner shafts are fenced off for safety, and we’ve gotta keep the bats happy! 🗺️
How to Get There: Hop on the green minibus 59K (make sure it’s heading to Lin Ma Hang) at Sheung Shui MTR Station. Ride it all the way to the Lin Ma Hang Village minibus terminal. From there, it’s just a quick 100-meter stroll to the start of the Lin Ma Hang Country Trail.
Good News for Visitors: Since January 24, 2025, the government has opened a specific road section near Lin Ma Hang Village (from Wang Lek to the village entrance) within the Frontier Closed Area (FCA). No Closed Area Permit is needed if you’re taking the green minibus through this section—perfect for easy access to Lin Ma Hang Village and Robin’s Nest Country Park! 🚐
Note: This permit exemption only applies to green minibus passengers. If you’re driving, taking a taxi, or traveling by other means (like walking or cycling), you’ll still need a valid permit. Want to hike instead? There’s a hillside footpath next to the FCA that connects to the village. It’s outside the FCA, takes about 20 minutes, and involves some uphill and downhill—great for a quick adventure! #LinMaHang #HongKongAdventures #HiddenGem #NatureAndHistory
