Stephen Chow Movie’s Famous Cha Chaan Teng Cafe Restaurant Reopened!

We talked about classic Cha Chaan Teng like Mido Cafe which has appeared in multiple movies such as “The World of Suzie Wong”. In fact, there is another old Cha Chaan Teng in Kowloon, which is also closely related to classic movies.

Hung Wan Cafe is the famous filming location of Stephen Chow movie “The Lucky Guy” (1998) because the movie itself is about the story of a Cha Chaan Teng. A small fire broke out in the restaurant in March this year and it took around a month to renovate. They just reopened recently.

The cafe itself keeps most of the ordinary design of old Hong Kong cafe decades ago - displays of bakery and drinks in the main entrance; two-storey with staircase which is very rare in Hong Kong now. The milk tea is good and the food is ordinary. The bakery like the egg tart is a must-try.

When many old restaurants couldn’t survive during pandemic, old Cha Chaan Teng like Hung Wan Cafe and Mido Cafe are very rare now. It is worth to check it out once in a while. Maybe to have an afternoon tea when it is not that busy so you can take photos freely.

Address:

726 Shanghai Street, Mong Kok, Kowloon
