Visit Dr. Strange’s Hong Kong Sanctum & Magical Herbal Tea!

This building in Hong Kong is full of stories. It was built in 1931 amd served as a Chinese medicine clinic and residence for the owner’s family. The owner Lui Leung is a Chinese doctor, one of the founders of Kowloon Motor Bus (Yes KMB), and had three wives with many kids. That’s why he needed such a big building for his family to live in.

After Lui Leung died in the 40s, the clinic was closed down and family members started to move out. From 1980s, it was almost abandoned and people started to call it haunted house (people always think abandoned house=haunted house).

After 2000, Lui’s family donated the building to Hong Kong government. Recognising its historical and architectural significance, the Hong Kong Government, in collaboration with the Urban Renewal Authority, launched a restoration project in 2008. It was reopened in 2012 as the Lui Seng Chun Chinese Medicine Centre. The center houses various facilities, including consultation rooms, a Chinese herbal medicine dispensary, a museum showcasing the history of Chinese medicine, and spaces for educational activities and workshops related to traditional Chinese medicine.

In the movie “Doctor Strange” released in 2016, the design of Hong Kong Sanctum of Dr Strange was based on Lui Seng Chun’s. So you can visit the real Hong Kong Sanctum Lui Seng Chun, visit the ground floor and try their herbal tea. You may not be able to find Doctor Strange there but surely you can find a Chinese Doctor!
